AHSAA tennis: Vestavia Hills sweeps 7A boys ‘and girls’ championships

Vestavia Hills swept the boys ‘and girls’ AHSAA Class 7A State Tennis Championships on Tuesday at the Mobile Tennis Center.

Madison Academy won its second straight boys ‘title in Class 4A / 5A and Randolph won the girls’ championship.

At Montgomery’s Lagoon Park Tennis Center, Houston Academy won the boys’ 1A / 3A title for the fourth straight year. Bayside Academy took the girls’ crown.

Vestavia Hills’ girls claimed their 12th title overall – first since 2016 – with 57 points. Auburn finished second with 42 points and Huntsville was third at 37.

The Rebels ‘boys’ team won their seventh championship and sixth since 2011 with 53 points in the two-day tournament. Hoover finished second with 32 points and Auburn was third with 26.

Madison Academy was led by Parker Jacques, who won his second straight. 1 singles title and teamed with his brother Houston Jacques to claim the 4A / 5A doubles crown in a row for the second year in a row. Madison Academy finished with 62 points to earn the title, edging LAMP with 62 points. St. James finished third with 47.

Randolph’s girls scored 59 points ahead of Russellville with 46 points. Defending state champion St. John Paul II Catholic of Huntsville was third with 42 points and Sardis was fourth with 37.

Houston Academy finished with 54 points to win the boys’ title with 30 points with Montgomery Catholic finishing second. Whitesburg Christian was third with 29.

Bayside Academy’s title was first for Admirals since 2018 and third overall. Bayside finished with 48 points. Donoho finished with 41 points and Lauderdale County was third with 25.

The Class 6A State Championships will be played Thursday and Friday at the Mobile Tennis Center.

Some highlights from the individual competition:

– Parker Jacques defeated LAMP’s Edward Lee 7-5, 6-1 to repeat 4A / 5A No. 1 singles champion. He and his brother Houston Jacques defeated St. James’ doubles team Toba Rias and Josh Harvey 6-0, 6-0 to sweep the number one. 1 competition.

– Alana Boyce led Randolph to the 4A / 5A girls’ No. 1 championship beating Abrianna Erwin of Etowah in the finals 6-0, 6-0. Boyce and Lova Stenberg also won. Russellville’s Peyton Parrish and Sofia Tiffin over a 6-1, 6-1 win with 1 doubles. Randolph captured three singles titles and two doubles championships.

– Ryen Walker of Whitesburg Christian downed Grant Eller of Westminster-Oak Mountain 6-2, 6-3 to win Class 1A / 3A No. 1 singles title.

– In the 1A / 3A girls’ finals, Amaria Schultz of Mars Hill Bible beat Bayside’s Claire Prickett 6-2, 6-3 at win. 1. O’Melia MacPherson won at no. 2 Admirals Beating Lily Grace Draper of Donoho 6-1, 6-1.

– Draper and Claire Hillman won the number. 1 doubles championship over Prickett and MacPherson 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 in the finals.

– In Class 7A, Bob Jones’ Parker Free, Who’s Finished Second in 2021, beat Samuel Sellers of Hoover 6-1, 6-1 to Win 1 boys’ singles title. Ryan Pearman beating Hoover’s Gavin Patton 6-4, 6-0 in the Vestavia Hills won three singles finals. 3 singles finals. Pearlman also joined Jake Anthony in the Rebels The Championship. 1 doubles. The duo beat Isaac Hwangpo and Patton in the finals 6-3, 6-3.

– Claire Bosman of Auburn defeated Cindy Jiang of Vestavia Hills 6-2, 6-1 to claim Class 7A girls’ singles championship. Vestavia Hills won the other five singles titles, however, with Ansley Cox topping Stella Stephens of Huntsville 6-2, 6-1. 2 singles finals.

– Bosman and her sister Camilla Bosman joined forces to win. 1 doubles title beating Stephens and Mazi MacGrotty 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

– Vestavia Hills won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles championships with Cox and Kenley Outzen taking on A 6-1, 6-2 win over Shreya Ejantkar and Hanbi Younan in Auburn.
