Area Roundup: Zanesville tennis splits tri-meet

ZANESVILLE – The Zanesville boys tennis team invited Logan and Athens on a home triangular Saturday.

The Blue Devils defeated the Chieftains 5-0 but lost 3-2 to the Bulldogs to move to 6-4 on the year. They are slated to travel to Watkins Memorial on Monday.

Against Logan, No. 1 singles Jeremiah Penrose won over Levi Keck 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 singles Lucas Watson defeated Owen Gadrim 6-0, 6-0, and no. 3 Tyson Omen downed Timmy Baron 6-3, 6-0.

The first doubles pair of Evan Dinan and Samuel Lightle defeated Ashley Aldridge and Mira Burns 6-0, 6-1 and Logan Keck and Xavier Lawson over Joshua Lightle and Sky Cooke 6-0, 6-1.

Against Athens, Penrose downed Ben Castenino 6-4, 6-3 and Dinan and Samuel Lightle defeated Jake McCartney and Jay Choi 6-4, 6-3.

Athens’ Luke Frost beat Lucas Watson 6-2, 6-3, Charlie Kuan won 6-1, 6-1 against Tyson Omen, and second doubles pair of Nico Barr and Jackson Owen beat Sky Cooke and Joshua Lightle 6-1, 6-1. 0.


Sheridan 4, 8, Licking Heights 2, 6: The Generals had a pair of comeback wins to move to 11-2 after a sweep of the Hornets.

In Game 1, Sheridan trailed 2-1 entering the final three innings of scoring single tallies at the bottom of the fourth. Jarrett Thorne had a go-ahead run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single, and relief starter Jake Paxton in Coyle Withrow picked up the win. Three strikeouts and four innings in one walk with no runs and two hits.
