Men’s Tennis Close Regular Season with Win Against Duquesne

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 23, 2022) MS The Morgan State men’s team wrapped up the 2022 regular season with a 6-7 non-conference road win against Duquesne on Saturday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Courts.

It was the Morgan standout for a special day Nihit Rawal who was honored for Senior Day and competed in his home match as a collegiate student-athlete.

Morgan State (10-8) improved to a two-match winning streak to end the regular season, while the Dukes dropped to 9-9 on the season.

Morgan claimed the doubles point but trailed 2-1 before the Bears reeled off the final four wins to secure the win.

Doubles (3,1,2)
The Bears team Sebastian Lopez and Makkijha Brown Record a 6-4 victory over the Dukes’ Tamirlan Teberikov and Liam Wickwire on Court 3. Morgan secured the point on Court 2, where Rhajzon Rankins and Niles Rachel defeated Joey Matthews and Jin Dassanayake, 7-5.

Singles (6,5,4,3,2,1)
Duquesne rallied with a pair of victories to play open singles. Joey Matthews defeated Martial Kawunde6-2, 6-1 on Court 6, followed by Jin Dassanayake Notching a 6-1, 6-2 win Rhajzon Rankins on court 5 to increase the Dukes lead to 2-1.

Morgan bounced back to tie the score at 2-2, followed by Sebastin Lopez’s 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tamirlan Teberikov on Court 4.

The Bears would reclaim the lead when good Niles Rachal, reigning MEAC Player of the Week, held off Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal 6-3, 6-2 in. Top 3-2 on the back of the hosts who put on the 3 singles match. When Morgan ended the match Nihit Rawal Alex Mascioli over recorded a win 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 on Court 2, followed Mikeal Carpenter recording a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Kaipo Marshall to give the Bears the 5-2 victory.
