No. 61 Women’s Tennis Drops 4-2 Decision to No. 62 Minnesota

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The 61st-ranked Penn State women’s tennis team (10-11, 4-5 B1G) fell to No. 4 on the road. 62 Minnesota (15-9, 3-6 B1G) on Sunday afternoon.


The Golden Gophers earned the doubles point with wins on courts. 1 and No. 2.

Minnesota’s duo, Ekin Ercetin and Emilee Doung defended Karly Friedland and Sofiya Chekhlystova, 6-2, on Court no. 1.

The doubles point was decided by a win from Rachel Hanford and Dailila Said, 6-0, over Penn State’s pairing. Yvonne Zuffova and Olivia Ryan. Court No. 3 was left unfinished between duo Gabby O’Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen and pairing Lucy Lu and Maria Rizzolo.


Minnesota continues to build its lead in singles play and earning points on Courts No. 4, 5, and 6.

Zuffova won the Nittany Lions first point match, capturing a three-set victory over Emilee Duong. Zuffova fell 3-6 in the first set, but took the second and third sets in the victory, 6-1 and 6-3, to PSU for the point of capture.

On Court No. 3, Gabby O’Gorman defeated Ekin Ercetin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
