The Carthage Lady Bulldogs softball team defeated visiting Waco Robinson 14-4 in a six-inning mercy rule in the opening game of a 4A bi-district playoff match-up.
Carthage was trailing 3-0 after the top of the first inning before going on to scoring 14 of the next 15 runs in the game.
The Lady ‘Dawgs scored five runs in the first, four in the third, three in the fourth and two in the bottom of the sixth to create the mercy rule.
No. 8 hitter Jada Walton led the way, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Tessa Smith went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Ashton Jones singled, drove in two runs, scored twice and walked twice, and Jakayla Roquemore singled, had an RBI and scored twice.
Jaycee Page singled and scored twice, while Mallory Tutt had an RBI and a run scored.
Tutt got the win in the circle throwing all six innings, allowing seven hits, four earned runs, one walk and six strike-outs.
An eight-run first inning propelled state-ranked Beckville to a 13-0 five-inning mercy rule victory over visiting Leverett’s Chapel in a District 19-2A game on Senior Night on Tuesday.
Aiden Brantley went 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and scored three runs, while Colby Davidson and Tyler Bryan both went 2-for-2, with Bryan adding a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, and Davison two runs scored.
Ryan Harris singled and scored twice, Lance White singled had an RBI and scored a run, and Karter Jones singled, had two RBIs and scored a run.
Harris got the win on the hill throwing two innings, allowing no runs, one walk and four strike-outs.
Beckville (16-2-1 overall, 14-0 District 19-2A) will wrap up district play on Tuesday when they visit Overton at 4 p.m.
The Gary Bobcats baseball team ended their season on a high note, defeating visiting Martinsville 8-4 on Senior Night in both teams’ District 23-2A finale.
Aiden Scogins went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored, Jasper Mills went 2-2 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Austin Deas had 2-3 with an RBI.
Mason Smith and Clayton Grimes both had singles and scored, and Thomas Flowers scored twice.
Mills got the win on the hill throwing all seven innings. He six hits, four runs (three earned), walked four and struck out eight.
Gary finished the season with a 6-14-1 record overall and a 5-9 record in District 23-2A.
