Tucker Named New Schaumburg Boys Basketball Coach

Jason Tucker was a successful boys basketball head coach in his own right for 11 years, before becoming an assistant coach at Stevenson for the 2021-22 season.

After one season with the Patriots, Tucker is taking over the boys basketball head coaching position at Schaumburg, replacing the departing Wade Heisler.

Tucker earned Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Coach of the Year honors in 2015, 2017 and 2021. He previously served as head coach at Luther North, Sullivan and Taft, posting a combined 181-123 record. Tucker was an assistant at Montini in 2009.

Tucker is an Elmwood Park High School alum (2003) and went on to play in college at William Penn University (Oskaloosa, IA) and later Concordia University Chicago, where he graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education teaching and coaching. He earned his masters in adapted physical education in 2014 from Northern Illinois University.

Tucker is excited to coach in the tough MSL conference next season.

“I mean that’s the best of the best,” Tucker said. “There are some of the best coaches in the state of Illinois (in the conference). So, I am very honored. I think that with learning under, (who) to me is the best coach in the state, Pat Ambrose, for a year is only going to help prepare me for that. I am very excited. I owe a lot to Pat and Stevenson. “

Ambrose (483-183 record in 23 seasons) is an IBCA Hall of Fame coach at Stevenson, helping the Patriots win state in 2015.

Tucker is one of five new head coaches in the area, replacing Heisler who had a solid run at Schaumburg.

Heisler’s final game was a 57-49 loss to Evanston Feb. 23 in the opening round of the 2022 playoffs. Heisler was 95-91 in seven seasons, including a 25-win season and a 23-win season. He also won one regional title with the Saxons in 2019, the team’s first since 2012. Wade is the brother of Leyden head boys basketball coach Bill Heisler, an IBCA Hall of Fame inductee as a player.

“I am very excited for this amazing opportunity at a prestigious program,” Tucker said. “I can’t wait to give my all to the Schaumburg community and school. It’s gonna take a lot of work and dedication, but I can’t wait to get started. “
